Product Introduction
Sumatriptan is also used to treat other types of headaches, including cluster headaches, which are very severe and occur on one side of the head or around the eye. Sumatriptan is classified under the selective serotonin receptor agonists. It constricts blood vessels in the brain so as to minimize the transmission of pain signals to the brain and also inhibits the release of some natural chemicals that cause migraine or cluster headaches.
How should this medicine be used?
Sumatriptan injection is available as a solution to be injected subcutaneously Here are the key points to remember:
- Take it when the migraine headache symptoms begin to manifest themselves. If you feel better but not after an hour or longer or, your symptoms come back, then you can use the second dose. In case you do not get better after the injection, do not use another one unless the doctor has advised you to do so.
- Take the medicines as prescribed by your doctor or the instructions written on the pharmacy label. Do not take a larger amount or smaller amount than recommended by your doctor.
- Sumatriptan injection can also be administered as pre-filled auto-injection, and as vial and by syringe injection systems. Only use the type of syringe that has been prescribed by your doctor or the one that your pharmacist has advised you to use.
- Sumatriptan can be administered subcutaneously, that is into the fatty layer on the outer side of the thigh or into the deltoid muscle of the upper arm. Do not give through a clothing layer or directly into a vein or muscle.
