Introduction Of Vianca Tablet [Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (400mg)]

Vianca Tablet is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication that contains:

Efavirenz 400 mg

Lamivudine 300 mg

Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) 300 mg

Vianca is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents (subject to weight/age) as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) to suppress viral replication, preserve immune function, and delay the progression to AIDS.

Precautions Of Vianca Tablet

  • Inform your doctor if you have liver disease (hepatitis B or C), kidney disease, bone problems, seizure disorder, psychiatric illness, or low body weight.
  • Avoid alcohol, recreational drugs or other medicines without consulting your doctor, as these may worsen side effects or affect efficacy.
  • Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception; Efavirenz has known risks in pregnancy. Consult your doctor if pregnant or planning pregnancy.
  • Vianca does not eliminate HIV transmission risk — continue safe sex practices and do not share needles or personal items.
  • If you feel dizzy, have sleepiness, or experience side-effects, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.
  • Store below 30 °C, protect from light and moisture, and keep out of reach of children.

Usage Of  Vianca Tablet

  • Vianca is taken once daily, preferably at bedtime, and often on an empty stomach or at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal to help reduce side effects such as dizziness or vivid dreams.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew or split the tablet unless advised by your doctor.
  • Consistent daily use is critical — missing doses or stopping treatment can lead to viral resistance, reduced efficacy, or treatment failure.
  • Regular monitoring (viral load, CD4 count, liver & kidney function tests) is necessary while on therapy.

Side Effects Of  Vianca Tablet

  • Headache
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Sleep disturbances, vivid dreams
  • Nausea, diarrhea
  • Rash or mild skin reactions

FAQs Of Vianca Tablet

Q1. Does Vianca cure HIV?
No — Vianca helps control HIV infection, reduce viral load, and preserve immune function, but it does not cure HIV or AIDS.

Q2. What if I miss a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it's nearly time for the next dose. Do not double the dose. Then continue at the usual time.

Q3. Can I stop taking Vianca once I feel better?
No — stopping therapy can cause viral resurgence and drug resistance. Always follow your doctor’s advice.

Q4. Can Vianca be used in pregnancy?
Use only if clearly needed and after doctor consultation. Efavirenz may pose risk in pregnancy; immunological status and other factors will be assessed.

Q5. Will I still be infectious to others?
Even with Vianca and suppressed viral load, there's still risk of HIV transmission. Use barrier protection and follow medical advice.

Drug Interactions Of Vianca Tablet

  • 1. Other Antiretroviral Drugs: Avoid combining with other medicines containing Efavirenz, Lamivudine, or Tenofovir, as it may cause overdose or toxicity.Do not take with Adefovir or Didanosine, since both increase the risk of kidney damage and lactic acidosis.
  • 2. Antifungal & Antibiotic Medicines: Rifampicin, Rifabutin, Itraconazole, and Clarithromycin may reduce the blood levels of Efavirenz, making Vianca less effective. Doctors may adjust doses or suggest alternatives if such drugs are needed together.
  • 3. Anticonvulsants (Seizure Medicines): Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, Phenobarbital can lower Efavirenz levels in blood, decreasing its antiviral activity.
  • Dose monitoring may be necessary when used together.
  • 4. Antidepressants / Sedatives / Antipsychotics: Taking benzodiazepines (e.g., Diazepam, Lorazepam) or antidepressants (e.g., Sertraline, Paroxetine) with Efavirenz can increase dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion.
  • Efavirenz may also alter mental health symptoms, so psychiatric medicines should be used carefully.
  • 5. Hepatitis B or C Medicines: Use cautiously with drugs like Interferon or Ribavirin, as the combination may cause liver toxicity.
  • 6. Herbal Supplements: St. John’s Wort significantly lowers Efavirenz concentration, making Vianca less effective — avoid completely.
  • 7. Alcohol: Alcohol increases the risk of liver damage and enhances dizziness or sleep disturbances caused by Efavirenz.
  • 8. Kidney-Affecting Drugs: Concurrent use with NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac) or other nephrotoxic agents can worsen kidney function due to Tenofovir.
