Precautions 

Contraindications:

  • Known hypersensitivity to either component
  • Avoid use in areas endemic for Loa loa, or in patients with high Loa loa microfilaria unless risk mitigation strategies are applied.

Uses

ZBD Plus Suspension is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Soil-transmitted helminth infections such as roundworms (Ascaris lumbricoides), whipworms (Trichuris trichiura), and hookworms (Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus).
  • Strongyloides stercoralis infection.
  • Microfilaraemia in lymphatic filariasis (especially Wuchereria bancrofti) .
  • Broader parasitic infections including scabies, threadworm, pinworm, and tapeworm, as supported by regional clinical use .

Side Effects

Common (may affect >1-10% of users):

  • Abdominal pain, headache, elevated liver enzymes 
  • Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, flatulence, loss of appetite, mild fever, sore throat, hair loss

Less common/rare but serious:

  • Leukopenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia, and bone marrow suppression 
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (skin reactions), encephalopathy in those with Loa loa infections 
  • Hepatotoxicity (liver injury) 

Most side effects are mild to moderate and resolve without intervention

  • Grapefruit may inhibit metabolism

Ivermectin:

  • Risk of increased CNS absorption when combined with CYP3A4 inhibitors such as statins, HIV protease inhibitors, benzodiazepines, and dexamethasone

Other:

  • Interaction possible with antianxiety drugs, sedatives, antiepileptics, corticosteroids, antacids
